The King’s Plate

The first jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, the $1 million King’s Plate, will be raced at Woodbine Racetrack on Sunday, August 20th. It is the oldest running North American Thoroughbred stakes race.

Formerly known as The Queen’s Plate in honor of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it hosts a field of 17 three-year-olds to be raced at 1 1/4 miles. In its 164-year history, 38 fillies have won the title, including last year’s winner Moira who holds the race record finish time of 2:01.48.

The race will be 10th on the card, with an official post time of 5:39 pm, a feature on the Tapeta Main Track.

Calm in the Storm

It’s a story from the headlines. The publisher speaks of a past Saturday’s tragic loss; the emotions felt before, during, and after. In adversity, community supports each other.

Easy to recognize.

It is our Saturday, our loss, our story, and our community.

Among our conversations, be mindful of the rawness people feel. Please offer compassion. Support each other. Controversy and objection can divert focus from the pain felt by the connections involved. Resist the need to exploit. Display maturity in discussions. This is not just a sport. They are not just a horse
